Gunung Mulu National Park or Mulu Caves National Park is one of
the major attractions in Sarawak,Malaysia. It is located near to Miri, the second
largest state in Sarawak. Gunung Mulu National Park is 100km away from Miri town.
The National Park is renowned for
its 3 caves that have amazing record in the world.
They are :
1. Sarawak
Chamber Cave- the largest cave chamber in the world and said to
accommodate 40 Boeing 747 aircrafts

Clearwater Cave - the longest cave in the South East Asia .

Cave is reached from the park headquarters (registration!) either by taking a
fifteen minute trip up the Melinau River in a longboat or by hiking for an hour
or more along a nature trail alongside the river. Some believe dipping in the clear and icy cold water in the
clear water cave will rid them of bad luck.
3. Deer Cave - the largest cave passage, 2
kilometers long and 174 meters in height, the cave is home to 12 different
species of bats, cockroaches,Scorpions, lizards, crabs and
birds.
There are various species of flora and fauna
spotted in the National Park. There are over 3500 species of plants and around
1500 species of flowers around in the park. As much as eight different species
of the famous bird - Hornbills are to be seen in the National Park too.
Besides, over 27 species of bats are spotted here.
There are more wildlife in the
park including the bearded pig, moon rat, gibbons, sun bear, shrews and etc.
There are also treks and trails available in the park for all adventurous
people. Many caves activities and forest activities are offered too. There is
Mulu Skywalk which hangs at the height of 480m. The Skywalk is the longest tree
based walk way in the whole wide world.

activities guided, or unguided including the Night Shift, Paku Waterfalls,
Camping, Cruising and Adventure Caving. All activities are offered with
different rates and packages. Do remember to call and book for reservations
once you plan out to explore Gunung Mulu National Park.

itself. There are The Garden Bungalow Rooms and Longhouse rooms with different
rates and prices. You can also spend your nights in the unique resort with the
name of Royal Mulu Resort where you can reach the resort with just a 5 minutes
drive from the National Park. There are restaurants and bars in the resort that
provide food that has the capability to tantalize your taste buds. There is
also a cafe opened daily in the Park HQ where you can enjoy your food and enjoy
the serenity and tranquility of the natural environment. Shopping for souvenirs is a must and so
there is a gift shop selling handmade wood work, t shirts and local carvings
that are all related to the park.

Park – you should not miss trekking the 11.3km long Headhunters Trail or
climb the famous 1,732m high Mulu Pinnacles.
Transport
The best and fastest way to get
to Mulu is by flight. The flight takes only 30 minutes from Miri to reach Mulu. You can also reach the National
Park by a boat ride. You can do this if you have a large group to save up the
cost as there is no regular boat service available. The boat ride takes about 3
hours.
The park offers a 5-day
unlimited entry and exit pass that costs RM 30 for non-Malaysian adult and RM
10 for non-Malaysian children (aged between 7 and 18 years). Malaysian adults
need only to pay RM 15, while Malaysian seniors (aged 60 and above) and child
(aged between 7 and 18 years) pay RM 7 and RM 5 respectively.
